In the last ten years, we have become increasingly aware of just how variable people are, and one way we understand this that is through the lens of neurodiversity.   People who are significantly different to the average in several ways are sometimes called ‘neurodivergent’.  These are people who may have diagnoses of autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental differences. These people say they have often grown up feeling like there is something wrong with them or feeling that they are deficient in some way.

In this webinar, Dr Naomi Fisher will talk about what neurodiversity means for psychological interventions, contrasting neurodiversity with other ways of understanding difference. To help us understand the context which brings people to our services,  Naomi describes how trauma and neurodiversity interact and presents a formulation tool, and ways we can adapt our practice to work more effectively with neurodivergent people.

This webinar aims to promote evidence-based practice and the use of psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to understand and alleviate the impact of trauma and related difficulties within this population.

 

The 2.5-hour webinar is delivered via PowerPoint but there are question and answer sections and clinical examples threaded throughout.

Training model:

This webinar is designed for all clinicians at the enhanced level of practice, who deliver psychological interventions or treatments with neurodivergent people across the lifespan.

Staff capacity and time commitment:

The webinar is 2.5 hours long.  Access is restricted to those at the enhanced level of practice and a short application form must be completed and a approved prior to accessing the webinar recording. 

Author/developer:

Dr Naomi Fisher is a clinical psychologist and EMDR-Europe Trainer. She specialises in trauma and

autism. She has worked in primary care and specialist services in the NHS and currently works in

private practice. She works therapeutically with children, adolescents, and adults, with most of her

clients being autistic or the family members of autistic people.

Recently she has been involved in research looking at how therapists adapt EMDR for use with

autistic clients and has published several papers on this topic. She is the author of several book chapters

and books
