The webinar provides an overview of key information about neurodiversity affirming practice. It provides a foundation upon which further learning can be built.  This webinar has the following five sections:

  1. Language and contexts - understanding this changing landscape and the key importance of seeking personal preference
  2. What conditions might we think of as being neurodivergent, and what do we know about prevalence?
  3. Thinking about mental health and understanding key issues for neurodivergent people
  4. How to adapt practice for neurodivergent people - principles from people with lived experience

This is a recording of the 2.5 hour webinar delivered in October 2023. The webinar is delivered via Powerpoint with a question and answer section at the end.

Staff capacity and time commitment:

The webinar is 2.5 hours long.  There is a short evaluation which should be completed at the end of the webinar.  There are also a number of resources references in the webinar and it would be advisable to have time to look through some of these materials after watching the webinar to consolidate learning.

The webinar was viewed live by 650 colleagues and was evaluated when it was delivered live and rated very highly.  It has been viewed a further 1,183 times from December 2023 – September 2024.

Learning

Follow-up reading and discussion is recommended to consolidate knowledge and consider any changes to practice as a result of viewing this webinar.   Participants are also asked to reflect on changes to practice during the webinar.

Behaviour

Participants are asked to reflect on changes to practice during the webinar. This is an awareness raising product, however, the Training Evaluation Toolkit could be used to help identify and measure targeted changes to staff practice.

Results

Services could use the Training Evaluation Toolkit to think about how to measure changes in mental health and wellbeing as a result of changes to staff practices or to measure increased access to services for neurodivergent people as a result of changes and adaptations.
