This half hour webinar provides a brief introduction to neurodiversity affirmative approaches to understand and support neurodivergent children and young people; including psychoeducation, individualisation, transdiagnostic and strength-based approaches. 

This is an introductory webinar (30 minutes).  It references free downloadable resources that can be accessed by practitioners working with neurodivergent children and young people.

Training model:

The webinar is designed for all clinicians working in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) and specialist neurodevelopmental services. 

Staff capacity and time commitment:

The webinar is 30 minutes long.  There are also a number of resources references in the webinar, and it would be advisable to have time to look through some of these materials after watching the webinar to consolidate learning.

Author/developer:

Dr Sinead Rhodes

Dr Rhodes is a developmental psychologist who is interested in the cognitive factors underlying behaviour

and learning. For over 25 years, she has researched and published on the topic of cognition, especially

executive functioning, in CYP with neurodevelopmental conditions including autism, attention deficit

hyperactivity disorder, and developmental coordination disorder; and associated conditions such as anxiety

and depression.  Dr Rhodes has received many awards for her work including the 2017 Royal Society of

Edinburgh Innovators Public Engagement Prize and the Tam Dalyell Prize for Excellence in Engaging the

public in 2022. 

What sets Sinead’s work apart is that her research is co-produced – from the priority setting exercises that set her research agenda, through to designing, trialling, and testing of materials for parents, teachers, and

clinicians – all her work is co-produced with a wide range of stakeholders.  Children and young people have

contributed to the co-production work and her work has been published.

This is an awareness raising product, however, the Training Evaluation Toolkit could be used to help identify and measure targeted changes to staff practice.
